IMPRESSIONS IN OIL
By
GWEN MC CAUSLAND

When Gwen McCausland left for college, little did she know that it would be many years before she would return to live in Yates County, where she had spent her teenage years. When her husband, Charles, retired in 1992, after thirty-five years served in the Air Force, they were delighted to be "coming home. Gwen and Charles spent years restoring a two-room brick schoolhouse (circa 1868) in Hall, New York, to be their future home". In the summer, they delight in spending time at their cottage on Keuka Lake.

Gwen has her studio at the Schoolhouse. It is there that she teaches private classes in impressionist oil painting. In addition to working in her studio, she can also be found outdoors with her easel, deeply absorbed in painting the many beautiful landscapes that bless the Finger Lakes region.

Gwen received her Bachelor Degree, Cum Laude, from Syracuse University. She completed graduate work at S.U.N.Y. New Paltz, and the University of Dayton. She studied privately with two Master Impressionist Artists: LeConte Stewart of Utah, and John Ebersberger of Annapolis.

Gwen taught art in high schools in New York, Ohio, and Kansas. In the commercial field, she has designed stores and managed displays and advertising.

Over the years, Gwen has been represented in many juried shows in Hawaii, California, Ohio, Utah, New York, as well as Annapolis, Maryland, and Alexandria, Virginia. She is a member of the Art League of Alexandria, Virginia, The Rochester Art Club, Yates County Arts Center, Ontario County Arts Council, and the Penn Yan Art Guild. Her work can be seen at The Yates County Arts Center, Rochester Art Club Shows, the Art Barn Show (July 5-6), and at her Schoolhouse Studio.
