Walt Disney True Life
Adventures and my Jon Nagy art set were my companions of choice
during my primary school years. They were also the earliest indicators
of my future pathways.
My grandfather's farm and all the outdoor activities that were
a part of it shaped my perspective and gave me an emotional outlook
that grounded me in good and bad times. The area around it fostered
my love of nature and the passion I have for capturing it. It
also served as my reservoir of painting and drawing images.
A passion for photography developed along with my art. This gave
me the ability to record what I love most in the outdoors and
accurately depict animals and plant life where important. I relish
the photo experience most in my art process because I get to
witness firsthand the moment, then bring it back to my artroom,
like a kid with a new cherished toy.
Fall is my favorite season and I gear up to find
a new area to view for future work. Creek scenes with strong
'time of day', light, dappled cloud cover or interesting rock
formations are what I might hunt for initially. What I sometimes
find is just as interesting in it's own right and different from
the original quarry. Surprise!
I like different ingredients in my artwork, although
they don't all need to be in the work together. Emotional power,
mood, light shadows, a 'power' sky, strong colors, a singular
moment, a chair, pinks and blues in snow, maybe an animal here
or a dash of leaves falling to give a sense of wind. A pinch
more of brushstroke, anything to add flavor to the work and make
it a feast for the eyes. Selling it is the dessert!
I currently show my work in Carmel, California and
New York.
