HANNELORE WOLCOTT-BAILEY

I was born in Germany, attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Frankfurt, and upon immigrating to the United States, I worked for the Artistic Card Company in Elmira, NY, designing greeting cards. After getting married and raising three children, I continued painting and studying.
I specialize in watercolor and have participated in many workshops in this country, some with nationally known artists. I have favored watercolor for its freshness and spontaneity and the unpredictable end result of each painting. I paint landscapes and almost always work on location. I love to travel and have taken painting trips to many places including Europe, New Zealand and the Bahamas. I spend winters in Arizona where the strong colors of the desert and mountains influence my work, but I love to return to the Finger Lakes, where I live on Keuka Lake with my husband Tom and am able to enjoy and observe the daily changes and effects that weather and time of day have on nature.
Recently, I have rediscovered oil and acrylics, which for many years I have neglected. Now they present a new challenge and give me more diversity to express a certain mood in the medium best suited to my subject. My paintings are all originals, not prints. Each is “one of a kind”. My subjects are chosen carefully, sometimes I drive many miles before something catches my attention.
I am a member of the Rochester Art Club, the Rio Verde, Arizona Art League, the Yates County Arts Council and the Penn Yan Art Guild.
My paintings are in many collections, including Soldiers and Sailors Hospital, Penn Yan; the Rochester Telephone Company and many private homes. My work can also be seen at my studio, by appointment.
On July 5 and 6, 2003, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., I will host the 4th Annual Art Barn Show, at 254 East Lake Road, Penn Yan, NY. Glenora Winery and Anthony Road Winery will participate with wine tastings and all art lovers and friends are welcome to visit.
