Registration Information Refund Policy

Full class fee is required at registration.

Absolutely NO partial class fees. Students may make up missed class if available at another session.

Class size is limited; please register early to avoid closed classes.

Enrollment is first come first served.


Classes with inadequate enrollment are canceled I week before the first class meeting. All fees refunded when YCAC cancels a class.

Refunds of class fees, less $10 admin fee, made for withdrawals prior to 2 business days prior to first class or 2 weeks prior for full week workshop.

Beginning in February Yates County Arts Center's workshops and classes will be held at the Penn Yan Presbyterian Church the corner of Main and Clinton Streets in the Roberts Room (southwest corner). Drawing with a Little Color (6 sessions)
Instructor: Robin Secrest

Let your imagination soar! Explore the art of Drawing using a variety of techniques, materials, and media. Some of the projects will include an exploration of color using pencils, markers, pastels, color washes.


Anything But Flat (4 sessions)
Instructor: Robin Secrest
Tuesdays: Mar. 23-Apr. 13
Time: 3:30-5:30
Cost: $20
Who needs flat when you can build 3-D? Students will design and construct 3-D objects coming off a flat surface, learn composition, and be inspired by extensions into space


 Instructors:

Robin B. McCondichie-Secrest graduated Cum Laude with a BA in Art History and Studio Art from the University of New Hampshire and received her MFA in Painting from the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore. She has taught a variety of art classes to children and teens in her studio, student homes and art centers.

Matthew C. Robbins combines his love for the outdoors with his artistic talent to create true to life paintings. Matt has ranked among the top entries in Stamp Competitions and Wildlife Exhibitions. See his work at the Yates County Arts Center. Matt enjoys teaching art to children and young adults and conducts workshops in cartooning and painting music.

Helene Oldweiler graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA degree in Sociology from SUNY Buffalo. She attended the California College of Arts and Crafts where she took several art courses including pottery and sculpture. Helene conducted independent studies in psychology, counseling, and art therapy with the Goddard College in Plainfield, VT. Helene’s workshops emphasize the value of working with clay while connecting with our artistic creativity and self esteem.

Fran Bliek began her love of art as a child and attended classes at the Munson-William-Proctor Institute of Art in Utica. She received a BS degree in Elementary Education from SUNY Potsdam and has taught in NYS public schools. Fran has conducted children’s watercolor workshops at YCAC and Child and Family Resources. In 2003 she was visiting watercolor artist at PY Elementary School.

Katherine B. Gill received her BS Degree in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz and MS in Elementary Education from Elmira College. She has directed numerous high school and community theater productions, is a professional singer with “The Boogie Girls and Company ’E’” and a member of the Chorus of the Southern Finger Lakes and Penn Yan Chorus. Kathy served on the Board of Directors for the Lake Country Players, the Keuka Lake Players and the Rainbow Dane Arts Company in Elmira.

Barbara Havill has been a full time potter for decades. She and her husband Eric create both production items and individual art items at their studio south of Branchport.

Stamping Fun for All
Instructor: Kathy Wheat
3rd Monday of each month (Feb-Dec)
Time: 5:00-7:00 pm
Cost: Youth 12 & up: $5/class
Adults: $10 plus $5 materials fee to instructor
Come learn some creative stamping techniques while creating cards and other paper crafts. Projects are beginner friendly.


ADULT / TEEN Classes

Painting (All Mediums) - (6 sessions)
Instructor: Dick Kane
Mondays: February 1-March 8
Time: 9:00-12:30
Cost: $115 M / $150 NM / $55 Teens
This is a painting class for all levels. Artist-instructor Dick Kane will demonstrate at each class; one week in watercolor, the next in oil. Dick will assist participants in sharpening their painting skills while they paint in their favorite medium. Lessons will focus on painting techniques and personal expression. Bring supplies and reference materials.


Basic Drawing (6 sessions)

Cost: $70M / $100 NM / $35 Teens
Enjoy Drawing using different approaches that will build skills and enhance drawing pleasure. Experiment with drawing tools and media. Open to all levels from beginners to advanced. All new projects.


Portrait Oil Painting (6 sessions)
Instructor: Robin Secrest
Tuesdays: March 23-May 4
(no class April 20)
Time: 6:00-8:00 pm
Cost: $110 M / $150 NM / $55 Teens
(cost includes Model fee)
Oil is a rich medium with which to capture depth, light and shadow. Learn to create beautiful portrait painting with a live model as you study facial features, proportions and color.


Yates County Arts Center offers weekly art classes during the school year to provide opportunities for children to explore art in a variety of ways.
The cost for each class is $5 per day.
